About Department
Urdu is one of Odisha's main languages taught all over the state as a mother tongue from primary to degree level. The Department of Urdu was established at then Bhadrak College in July 1948. Provision of Honours teaching was made in 1955. The Department entered a new phase of life with the opening of the PG course in 1992. The Department imparts teaching in Urdu language and literature. Many colleges in Odisha provide degrees in Urdu but Bhadrak Autonomous College, Bhadrak has state recognition. It is the only college in the state of Odisha that provides a PG degree in Urdu.
Vision
The vision of the Urdu Department is to preserve the dignity and aesthetics of Urdu language & literature by uplifting the literary, socio-cultural and educational standards in the state of Odisha and to highlight the rich tradition of Urdu language by enhancing the language skills of the students and to encourage them to pursue higher studies in Urdu.
