About Department

The Department of English at Bhadrak Autonomous College offers a robust academic environment for students pursuing undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) studies in English literature, language, and related fields. Established as part of the college's humanities and science programs, the Department plays a crucial role in shaping the academic landscape at the institution. The department's undergraduate and postgraduate courses provide students with a comprehensive education in various areas of English studies. These include: 1. English Literature: Students explore literature from different historical periods and genres, gaining insights into literary movements, authorial styles, and socio-cultural contexts. 2. Language and Linguistics: The courses also cover aspects of language structure, linguistics, and grammar, helping students understand the mechanics of the English language. 3. Creative Writing: Opportunities for creative writing are included, fostering students' ability to express themselves through different literary forms. 4. Critical Analysis: Students are taught critical thinking and analytical skills, allowing them to assess and interpret literary texts, theories, and ideologies. The spacious staff room offers a conducive working environment for faculty members, while the four large classrooms provide ample space for lectures and discussions. The Language Lab is an important feature, facilitating the development of language skills, including pronunciation, listening, and speaking. The Department has 9 sanctioned faculty positions to support the academic needs of the department, and it offers 32 seats each for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Faculty members not only teach but are also actively engaged in academic research, contributing to the scholarly community through publishing research papers and books. They further promote knowledge-sharing by organizing seminars, workshops, and conferences, which create a platform for both students and academics to discuss key topics in English studies and related disciplines.
