Bhadrak College, Bhadrak was established on 2nd July 1948. The Science department in general and the Chemistry department with an area of 2500 sq ft. (approx) saw the light of the day in August 1955 with 128 students in the Intermediate Science. B.Sc course was introduced during the early sixties without honours in the subject. Honours teaching in Chemistry had a humble beginning with 16 students as the first batch in the academic year 1964-65. The college was taken over by the Government on 9th March 1971. It has traversed a long way since, charting an eventful path to attend the present position with 144 students being admitted in the current session 2022-2023. The department introduced CBCS at the Undergraduate level during the year 2015-16. The Government permitted the open M.Sc in Chemistry with 16 students strength during the academic session 1992-93 and M.Sc in Applied Chemistry with 24 students strength in the academic session2018-19 which has added a new dimension to this learning centre college got Autonomous status during the year2002-03. The department has been a front-runner in curricular and extracurricular activities of the college. The department boasts well-equipped laboratories for the M.Sc, Honours and Pass students, well well-stocked Seminar Library having more than 1800 books (Text Books & Reference Books), a research room and also Wi-Fi facilities. Apart from teaching basic science, the department also undertakes career counselling to the students of all branches of science for higher studies as well as placement in different areas.
