About Department
Bhadrak College was established on 6th July 1948 but the Department of Botany came into existence at a later stage in the year 1954 and started teaching Botany at the Intermediate science level. In the year 1960, the Bachelor Level Teaching in Botany (Pass) was started. A new phase was ushered in with the opening of Honours Level teaching in 1967. After a long wait finally in the year 2023, Post Graduate Course in Botany was introduced with a 24-student strength, which broadened the horizon of knowledge in the process of teaching and learning in one place. The department has a library of about 800 plus books (textbooks and reference books) to help the students achieve academic heights and quench their thirst for knowledge in an unhindered way. Apart from this various teaching methods are adopted by the faculty including the use of ICT tools and field trips etc. for imparting high-quality knowledge. Special lectures, workshops and seminars with external experts are being conducted regularly as part of student enrichment programs. Extracurricular activities are also encouraged and organized to bring about the all-round development of the students.
Vision
The Department of Botany envisions itself as a centre of academic excellence with widespread recognition for innovation, invention and intellect in the state. It also aims to produce the best human resources in the field of plant science and help them realize their full potential in ways that benefit society. Full-fledged plans are to be made regularly to prepare students for lifelong learning by drawing attention to the vast world of knowledge of plants and introducing them to the methodology of systematic academic enquiry. With this in mind, we aim to provide a firm foundation in every aspect of botany and to explain a broad spectrum of modern trends in botany. This department not only aims at imparting high-quality knowledge at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels but also inculcates moral values and concerns for fellow humans and society as a whole.
